John Innes No2 is for general potting of most houseplants and vegetable plants into medium sized pots or containers.
The range is named after John Innes, a nineteenth century property and land dealer from London. In 1904 on his death bed he bequethed his fortune and estate to the improvement of horticulture by research. The result was the establishment of the John Innes Horticultural Research Institute and subsequently the development of a range of loam based products you see today. John Innes composts are a blend of selected loam, sphagnum moss peat, course sand and fertilizers. The loam is screened and sterilised and then mixed together to achieve optimum air and water holding capacity and nutrient content.
